"Fun"raising Activities

Since the inception of the Foundation in 1999, we have not only assigned 13 grants to educational programs that inspire both our students and community, but we have hosted a number of fundraising events as well:

Foundation Kickoff Celebration
Sponsored by the Mountainside Rotary Club, this event supplied entertainment by some very talented students, refreshments, and a raffle that included a dinner for 2 at Gramercy Tavern in NYC, Devlin prints, and a pre-owned Honda.  This event helped the Foundation get off to a productive start!

Walk-A-Thon
Students in grades Moppet - 8th grade and faculty took part in a walk-a-thon on the Deerfield campus.  Students were sponsored to walk laps around a track set to music by a local DJ.

Talent Show
More than 30 acts entertained a most enthusiastic audience with comedy routines, dance, and song.  Funds were raised through both ticket sales and ads within the show program.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
  • May 31, 2001 - Second Annual Talent Show
  • October 27, 2001 - Art Auction.  Co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Mountainside and the Mountainside Education Foundation, Inc.
Grants Awarded: 1999-2000

Grants totaling more than $4,500 have been awarded to date; following are a few highlights:

  • Plaque Research Project - This 2-year long project included historical research on the noteworthy people behind the plaques that are displayed throughout Deerfield.  A final report was also created to catalog the data from this project.
  • Collection Development in Support of Curriculum  - The Mountainside Library purchased books to support the Deerfield curriculum, ensuring our students have access to the resources necessary to achieve excellence.
  • Deerfield School Brass Workshop - Several grades in Mrs. Maraffi's class participated in this workshop which introduced students to the family of brass instruments. An increased number of students are now playing brass instruments in our school orchestra - coincidental? We don't think so!
  • Video News Club - Equipment was purchased so Mr. Predale could start a Video News Club to teach students how to create news stories on video and then edit for presentation.
  • Etiquette 101 - This course, conducted by a Mountainside Mom, taught students etiquette essentials for use at home and in public.
  • Philadelphia Art Museum Trip - An exciting Art Enrichment trip for students in grades 4-8.
